Nitrogen. To use, or not to use? ... That is the question.
Here at Vanderstyne Toyota, Nitrogen is NOT used in place of compressed air to fill tires.
"Why not?" you may ask.
1) It costs a lot. We're talking up to $20.00 per tire.
2) You will feel no difference in your vehicle's ride, handling or braking.
3) It doesn't eliminate the need to regularly check and set your tire pressures. It simply decreases the rate with which the air can seep out through the tire compound. However, if your wheels are pitted/dented/rusty/damaged (or all of these), you will still experience leakage, regardless of what your tires are filled with.
4) Compressed air (the air that comes in the tires from the factory, as well as the air you breathe) is a mixture of 78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen, and 1% other gases. Nitrogen filled tires are approximately 95% Nitrogen....
5) Only a limited number of service stations offer Nitrogen, which makes it difficult to inflate a low tire and maintain proper tire pressure.
6) Nitrogen is not listed as a recommendation or alternative choice in your Toyota Maintenance Guide.
Plus:
Every time your vehicle comes in for a maintenance service we set the tire pressures for you!
Also, we do not charge to check and set your tire pressures.
Just stop by - no appointment necessary! (And it's free!)
